The William Carleton Society is deeply saddened by the death of one of its longest supporters, Arthur Quinn from Omagh. He attended our first summer school at Corick House in Clogher when he was pictured alongside Seamus Heaney, Benedict Kiely, Owen Dudley Edwards, Ken Maginnis MP, Cllr Jim Cavanagh, Jack Johnston and Pat John Rafferty. Our committee member Liam Foley who taught with him for several years at St Colmcille’ s primary school in Omagh recalled how Arthur was very knowledgeable on many things and was a scholar on everything to do with Carleton. “He had a great sense of humour and was a very kind man. Sad news indeed,” Liam said.
