The Carleton tour was led by Jack Johnston to Granard where Noel Monahan explained the Carleton connection and read poetry en route. Next stop Mullingar where Dr Ruth Illingworth of NUI Maynooth showed us the places where William Carleton lived and worked as a school teacher 1823/24. On the way home Dr Frank Brennan added to our knowledge of Cavan.
